I quit Skype and take renamed the folder. What was just renaming the folder supposed to practise? Surely I need to do something else? The black screen is still there.

You take an older laptop model with drivers provided for Windows 8 just. No dedicated Windows 10 drivers are available for this laptop model.
Information technology looks like that the latest Skype 8.69.0.77 version is non working well on older systems.
Uninstall this Skype version and install the 8.68.0.96 version using this direct download link:

You have an older laptop model with drivers provided for Windows viii simply. No defended Windows ten drivers are available for this laptop model.
It looks like that the latest Skype 8.69.0.77 version is not working well on older systems.
Uninstall this Skype version and install the 8.68.0.96 version using this direct download link:
